Curlews are recognised to be critically endangered due to a combination of a change in land use, agricultural practises and predators making it difficult for them to successfully raise their young. I’m very fortunate to live in an area where I can hear them from my studio and see them when I’m walking and running. During the summer months, I often go out in the evening and look for them and if I stand quietly where I can’t be seen, I can observe them feeding in the meadows or flying across the fells.
