A Curious Collection
10th november - 31st december
An intriguing and magical exhibition of prints, paintings, mixed media and ceramics emanating vibes of the eccentric Victorian collector.
Hester Cox
Hester Cox has created a collection of small and detailed collagraphs based on the landscape, plants and wildlife of the Yorkshire Dales. Hester uses multiple plates and and techniques to create layers of texture and this echoes the layers of meaning and metaphor in the images .
Josie Beszant
Josie's new work continues the themes of treasure and collecting. This selection mostly featuring hands and gloves
Vicky frost
Vicky’s current body of work stems from a fascination with fungi and the transformations they induce. Inspired by the otherworldly way in which fungi spring up everywhere, and amazed by the volume and variety to be found, her pieces draw attention to these smaller beings of the woodland world. Fungi are an integral part of any woodland environment, providing plants with nutrients and forming connections between the entire community via the vast mycorrhizal networks they embody.
Working in mixed media, Vicky captures the rich textures of fungi, moss and lichen using a range of materials from embroidery to expanding foam.
‘Despite their nearness, fungi are so mystifying, their possibilities so other’ Merlin Sheldrake, Entangled Life.

CHARLOTTE MORRISON
I’m not really a collector of any on particular item, but generally love collecting items with age, found objects and natural specimens collected when out walking. I enjoy the process of collecting and find it like hunting for treasure. I’m fascinated with how others collect and how items are arranged or organised in certain ways. For the ‘collections’ project my ceramics concentrate on the recording of natural specimens, linking them back to where they are found in the landscape.
Gertie Young
Each of Gertie’s paintings is like a little journey that makes its way out into the unknown. The images that arise are based on a mixture of observation, emotional memory and imagination. Ultimately her pieces often deal with the meeting of opposites: whether near or far, natural or man-made, mundane or celestial, personal or global. Fairy stories, poems, dreams, imaginary or real objects and places provide her with a constant stream of ideas.
Gertie has firmly established her position as an artist in the UK, having participated in a variety of National competitions and exhibitions such as: the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition, the National Open Art competition, the RWS' Contemporary Watercolour Competition, the Society of Women Artists Annual Exhibition, the Sunday Times Watercolour competition, the New English Art Club exhibition, the Royal Society of British Artists exhibition, the Royal Institute of painters in watercolour exhibition and the Royal Watercolour Society where, after becoming a member she also became the society treasurer. Her paintings can be found in private collections in the USA, Oman, Israel, Germany, France and Spain as well as here in the UK.

Victoria Brookland
Victoria is particularly inspired by female writers such as the Bronte's and Emily Dickinson. Her work often depicts dresses interwoven with quotes, dream imagery and rich with storytelling. Each piece is incredibly intricate, but at the same time bold.
