Fresh From The Farm
Angela Hall
26th July - 30th September
Angela Hall is an artist that makes limited edition silkscreen prints from her home studio in North Yorkshire. Her expressive designs are lead by daily drawing activities in her sketch books where she explores her surroundings and records her experiences. Subject matter presents itself in all kinds of locations including domestic interiors, gardens, landscape, street architecture, travel and the environment.
Recording her environment in sketchbooks has been a daily practice for many years and her observations often have a narrative which tell the story behind a collection of objects or a specific place.
Her limited-edition prints are created from memories of a place or object which she simplifies when back in the studio. She looks for the quirk in her subject matter and there is a strong graphic style running through her printmaking.
Living on a working farm there is plenty of wildlife and local landscape to inspire her work and drawing and mark making are her starting point. Angela works quickly and spontaneously in-order to create simple but dramatic imagery. Bold broken outlines and texture are over-laid with colour using the photo and mono print silkscreen process.

Printing Process
Angela has a professional printing studio at home; however, her prints start with the creation of a series of painted stencils on acetate. Her printing process does not use computers and all her stencils are produced by hand using a range of painting and drawing techniques.
Each printed colour requires a hand painted stencil, and each stencil is transferred onto a silkscreen frame using a photographic process. Angela makes small, printed editions by hand and squeegees ink through the mesh printing the lightest colours first before a final darker layer is added.
Typically, her prints include up to 10 printed layers.
