'Huggate sits in its little valley in East Yorkshire, a ew miles North of Beverley, on the Yorkshire Wolds Way. It has a timeless air - a small village clustered around a magnificent church. Its calm was briefly disturbed in 1943 when a temporary airstrip was created so that aircrews could practice before the D Day Landings. Fighters spent a week taking of and landing before the village was once more let in peace.'
