Once Upon A time

Magical illustrative printmaking from three incredible visual storytellers. Be immersed in story with these fabulous images.
Frans Wesselman
Having trained as an art teacher in the Netherlands, Frans Wesselman has worked as a painter and print maker in Britain for many years. He is a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, making limited edition etchings and woodcuts. His work is generally narrative and concerns people doing things, interacting with each other, with animals, plants of the supernatural.
Around the millennium, he saw the 'Prisoners of Conscience' windows in Salisbury Cathedral which sparked his interest in stained glass. Frans makes small stained glass panels to hang in front of windows which are for sale at galleries throughout the country. He takes commissions for windows and light boxes and is currently making free standing objects by arranging several stained glass panels in front of one another.

Teresa Winchester
As a child I loved to curl up in a chair with a book
and read of magical worlds, brave deeds and princesses. The only pastime I enjoyed more was to draw the pictures these stories suggested. And I
still love doing this.
Nowadays I'm a storyteller, and stories continue to inspire my work. Some of the images emerge from the well known tales such as the Red Shoes, but others drift into my mind quite unexpectedly, often just when I'm falling asleep! Some images, such as the Zebra Race, are not about a traditional wonder tale, and I like to think that the viewer will seek their their own story asking themselves what it's all about!

Victoria Keeble
Victoria is a printmaker and her subject matter is often sparked by a chance remark, a poem, fairy tales, classic legends or just 'out of the blue'. Her childhood, in the wilds of Cornwall, was spent surrounded by dogs and horses and she has been drawing fauna and flora ever since. Originally trained as a textile designer at Falmouth School of Art, she went on to work in the textile industry. In the 1980s, she studied printmaking at Hereford College of Art and more recently at West Dean College and the Sidney Nolan Trust. Since becoming a printmaker, her work has become more illustrative, incorporating her love of pattern and textures and almost always featuring natural forms including animals and birds, sometimes in strange juxtapositions. Victoria uses several printmaking techniques including etching, linocut, wood-engraving, monoprint and collagraph, her preferred medium, to create her limited edition work. She has exhibited widely in Great Britain and her work is in private collections throughout Europe and also in Australia, Canada and the USA. She has been a member of the Hay Makers, a cooperative of local designer makers, based in the world famous book town of Hay-on-Wye, since its inception in 1987.
