Home to the Hepworth Gallery and a beautiful medieval chantry chapel on the bridge, Wakefield has a wonderful atmosphere. With the cathedral, the elegant town hall and a viaduct that consists of a mysterious number of arches (somewhere between 99 and 111) it’s a brilliant subject for an artist. In the painting I wanted to contrast the modesty and the grandeur of the city’s buildings.
