'When J M W Turner was touring Yorkshire in search of subjects he stayed for a while at the Kings Arms in Richmond. While there he painted a view of the Norman castle from Lee Gill - the steep hill on the Leyburn road. I love Turner’s work and this is one of several places I’ve visited to paint my own picture standing where he stood. '
