Askrigg in Wensleydale is a very special place. It is known to millions as the setting for the original BBC series of All Creatures Great and Small. The village, once an important centre of clockmaking, lies where Mill Gill flows down through spectacular waterfalls to the River Ure and where St Oswald’s church has been a place of worship since the 12th century
It is overlooked by the distinctive hill of Addlebrough, which is crowned by an ancient cup and ring stone, marking the place where the Devil supposedly hurled huge rocks towards nearby Semerwater.
