Wild Therapy
May 16th-July 17th

Wild Therapy brings together the work of Jane Bevan, Stef Mitchell, and Kate Kato—three artists whose practices are rooted in nature, memory, and place. From sculptural assemblages of woodland finds to delicate plant-based prints and lifelike paper flora and fauna, their work invites a slower, more intimate engagement with the wild. This exhibition is a celebration of the natural world’s quiet power to heal, connect, and inspire.

Jane Bevan

Based in Derbyshire, Jane creates sculptural works using natural and found materials collected on daily walks through ancient woodland. Her artistic practice is deeply inspired by museum collections and historic sites, from the Pitt Rivers Museum to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Drawn to the beauty in the overlooked—thorns, bark, feathers, seeds, and acorn cups—Jane hand-stitches, weaves, and assembles these unique elements into intricate vessels, sculptures, and collages. A graduate of the University of Derby’s Crafts BA (2011), where she received first-class honours and the University Purchase Award, Jane now exhibit her work in galleries and craft events across the UK.

Stef Mitchell

Working in the tradition of nature monotype printmaking, Stef creates original prints and artist books that document her walks through hedgerows, field edges, and rural landscapes. Using plants gathered during these journeys, each print is made directly from the natural material—capturing a unique moment in time, with no two prints ever the same.
Stef’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including shows in the Netherlands, Finland, and Sweden. She was featured as a printmaker at the Craft Centre and Design Gallery in Leeds, and her artist books were part of international exhibitions during the Liverpool Biennale in 2014 and 2016. Her work was also included in Connections North: Mirror Images (2015), and shortlisted for the Flourish Award in 2014 and 2015. In 2018–19, she was selected for the New Lights Prize Exhibition.
Stef works from her studios in Sledmere and Staithes, continuing to explore the intersection of landscape, memory, and print.

Kate KAto

Kate is a paper-based sculptor whose intricate, life-sized creations explore the delicate beauty and hidden intricacies of the natural world. Using discarded paper, wire, and thread, she crafts detailed representations of plants, insects, and found objects, arranging them into curated collections, installations, and dioramas. Her work reflects a deep fascination with nature and a desire to document the ways we connect with it—emotionally, environmentally, and historically.
Inspired by both scientific observation and personal experience, Kate begins each piece with in-depth research, gathering references through fieldwork, photography, and archival study. Her process combines hand-cutting, paper carving, wire work, and embroidery, transforming reclaimed materials into lifelike sculptures that appear both real and unreal—inviting viewers to pause, question, and look more closely.
Originally from Bristol, Kate studied Graphic Design at the University of the West of England, where she specialized in print and bookmaking. After years working in photography and design, a move to rural Wales in 2014 rekindled her creative direction. Now based near Hay-on-Wye, she works from her home studio and has exhibited nationally and internationally. Her clients include Sotheby’s, Condé Nast, and Oroton, and her work is held in collections across the world.
