about us
masham galleryMasham Gallery is a gallery, shop and creative space in the heart of Masham, North Yorkshire.
We show contemporary art and craft, and sell thoughtfully made work by artists and makers from across the UK, with a strong connection to place, story and material. Our exhibitions change regularly and are shaped by the seasons, the landscape, and the rhythms of the year. The gallery has been part of Masham since 1994. It has grown slowly and intentionally, guided by close working relationships with artists, careful attention to the space, and the time given to visitors. What matters most to us is how the work is made, shared, and experienced. Alongside exhibitions, our shop brings together ceramics, prints, textiles, paper goods, books and objects for the home — all chosen for their quality, integrity and sense of making. We work fairly with artists and makers, and aim to run the business in a way that is thoughtful, sustainable and kind. Community is central to what we do. Over the years we have supported creative learning, collaborated with local organisations, and helped nurture projects such as Artison, a not-for-profit bringing creative workshops to the wider area. Masham Gallery is run by a small, hands-on team, led by artist and curator Josie Beszant, who lives above the gallery. This is a place where people are welcome to linger, to look closely, to ask questions — or simply to sit for a while and enjoy the space. In a busy world, we hope the gallery offers something of a pause: a place for beauty, attention and quiet connection. You can read more about how and why Masham Gallery is run in this way in our writing on small business. |
