Karen Risby creates contemporary ceramic sculpture, wall hangings and porcelain accessories. Karen’s work is an extension of her love of drawing, exploring pattern and line using both brushwork and sgraffito, a process that involves scratching back into the painted surface. She takes inspiration from nature, myth and story telling; birds are a prominent feature of her work interweaved with landscapes, people and places. She uses porcelain slip, stains and oxides and fires her work to stoneware. Prices range from £20 -£28
Inspired by landscapes and seascapes, natural objects and ancient jewellery, I aim to communicate my response to the world around me. I also want to evoke a sense of ancestry in something contemporary and wearable. Life events and travels have also influenced my work in recent times. Alongside making I take photographs of all kinds of things that catch my eye... shapes, textures, patterns, elements of which often present themselves within my jewellery. I make a lot of one-off pieces but items that are the 'same' are also unique. No two pieces are ever exactly the same. I work instinctively using various techniques and processes, vitreous enamels and the versatile effects of the flame. Prices range from £70 - £140
