A extraordinary exhibition exploring a very ordinary medium - paper. Imagine typewriters made from old newspapers, and books made from maps. Imagine a detailed landscape made from intricately cut magazines, wrapping paper and envelopes...
Artists contributing to Paperworks include Kate Slater, an illustrator whose designs can be found on the covers of many children's books, and Helen Musselwhite, whose beautiful work has been used in international advertising campaigns for Audi and Nokia. Also involved are local artist Clare Lindley, Sarah Morpeth, the artist behind the stunning installation at the Georgian Theatre in Richmond last year, book binder Elizabeth Shorrock, Yasemin Wigglesworth, creator of papercutting business 'Cuts a Fine Figure', and Jennifer Collier, who uses recycled papers to make the most unbelievable sculptures of everyday objects. The exhibition has been organised by Rosie Scott-Massie, a York based papercutter originally from Masham, whose work will also be in the exhibition. The exhibition will also feature a small collection of silver and paper jewellery by Li-chu Wu.
A special window installation, designed by Rosie Scott-Massie has also been created to promote the exhibition, and can be seen in the gallery's left window from May 3rd.
Please note: These images are examples of the artists' work, and some of the exact pieces may not be in the Paperworks exhibition. Please contact us for more details.
