How to commission an artwork...

Why commission?

Maybe you have a space that nothing seems right for, or you would like a particular view of somewhere special to you, it could even be a special gift. It is something completely unique to you.

Commissioning a piece of art is an enjoyable, rewarding process that results in a unique piece of work that is created especially for you.It is often a process that is misunderstood and people can be wary of imposing their wishes on an artist, but we will guide you through the process. The Gallery gives you direct access to the right artist or craftsperson, and can advise you on the commissioning process.

What do you need to consider?

Firstly you need to look at the style the artist works in. It may seem obvious but an artist who paints atmospheric landscapes will not be the one to paint a portrait of your mother! it is really important that you know and like the work of the artist you want to commission. You will also need to consider these things:-

1 - What are the specifications required in the commissioned work? (sizes, finish, style)

2 - What is your budget?

3 - When do you need delivery? (Depending on the work being commissioned, the delivery time may be up to 12 weeks, but is usually less.)

What happens next?

You can phone us with your ideas, and we will talk them through with you and then ask the artist or maker to contact you to arrange a suitable appointment time. If you are happy with the meeting we will put some details down in writing and ask you for a deposit, the remainder will be payable on collection/delivery of the work.
