The artist of the month this month is Charlotte Curtis. Charlotte has been represented here for 10 years and has had 2 very successful exhibitions with us.

Opening on the 29th of July is Charlotte's 3rd exhibition here "Storytellers" and the culmination of 18 months work for her. I am delighted to be showing Charlotte's work again it always brings a smile and a bit of sunshine in.
In between hunting for paintbrushes, finishing the exhibition work and looking after her 2 children Charlotte made time to answer these questions:-

J:-What is your studio like?
C:-A complete tip. I'm not satisfied unless I'm hunting around for my paintbrush

J:-Do you work with music or silence?
C:-Music - dance compilations from ASDA are good

J:- Can you remember the first piece of work that you did that you were happy with?
C:-Probably my end of year course work for my BTEC

J:-What are your top 5 desert island works of art?
C:-I'd be happy to take along all of Van Gogh's sunflowers.

J:-Do you know how it will turn out before you start?
C:-Not always, but most of the time I have a fair idea.

J:-Favourite work? ( your own)
C:-It has to be "The Girl on the Donkey" - it always makes me smile.

J:-Who was/is your biggest influence/inspiration?
C:-Chagall - for his dreamlike quality

J:-Sketchbook or no sketchbook?
C:-I don't have a sketchbook.  I like the idea of one but I just scribble a picture the size of a postage stamp generally.

J:-Favourite place?
C:-Beside the seaside

J:-Where would you like to be in 5 years time?
C:-Sometimes I can't contemplate next week being the proud owner of a two year-old

J:-Is modern art rubbish?
C:-I'm keeping an open mind on that one

J:-Damien Hirst or David Hockney?
C:-David Hockney's recent water-colours of Yorkshire landscapes were fantastic and I like  the Bridlington connections too.

J:- Tracey Emin or Tony Hart?
C:-I was brought up on Tony Hart's genteel attitude and spotted cravats.

J:- Can art change the world?
C:-Probably not, but it is a powerful communicator.

J:-What is the colour of happiness?
C:-Yellow - definitely

J:-Is art the spiritual world looking in or the material world looking out?
C:-A bit of both don't you think

J:-What was the worst job you ever had?
C:-North Sea Ferries in a fierce gale was quite bad.

J:- London or the Lake District?
C:-The Lake District.  I'm a sucker for a beautiful view and a Red Squirrel

J:- What question would you like to ask people who have seen your work?
C:-That question makes me squirm

J:- If the art doesn’t work out whaddya gonna do?!!
C:-I suppose I'll have to emigrate.
